Financing 150MW of renewable energy generation capacity across Gauteng, Western Cape, and Northern Cape provinces, accelerating South Africa's just energy transition.
The DBSA Renewable Energy Fund is a landmark R2.4 billion investment programme designed to accelerate South Africa's transition to clean, sustainable energy. The fund finances the development of 150 megawatts of renewable energy generation capacity across three key provinces: Gauteng, Western Cape, and Northern Cape.
This initiative forms a critical part of South Africa's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP 2019) and supports the government's commitment to reducing the country's carbon emissions while addressing the chronic energy supply shortfall. The programme incorporates a mix of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies.
DBSA's involvement extends beyond financing β the Bank provides technical advisory services, project preparation support, and capacity building for local municipalities and independent power producers (IPPs) participating in the programme.
